Open Weekend at St John's Church Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October 2015

To celebrate being selected as a 'Waterloo Church' following the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, St John's Church held an Open Weekend to coincide with their Harvest Festival.

Joe Thornley, the former Bell Tower Captain, who managed the bell ringing team for over 50 years, recently presented the church with a 'Waterloo Medal' which now hangs in the Children's Corner.

In recognition of the Waterloo Remembrance, Susan Steven, a brownie guider and former bell ringer, presented nine music stands to Shaun Croston, deputy church warden and hand bell ringer, for the use of the church hand bell ringers.

Throughout the weekend over 200 people visited the church and were able to view the displays produced by our church organisations, together with those from our three Church Primary School's pupils.

During the weekend a number of musical events took place, which included sessions from the Team Organists, Paul Saxon our Schools Project Worker and the Lancashire Association of Bell Ringers.
